About Us

Majestic Oak Ltd was formed in May 2005 by Jonathan Ely and Emma King. When they started the company Emma and Jonathan had between them over 25 years of live role playing experience, playing, assisting with and, in Jonathan's case, also reffing other systems. Finding that no system offered them quite the LRP experience they were looking for they decided to run their own and created Majestic Oak LRP. They rapidly discovered they would need help running their games so recrutied other experienced roleplaying friends to lend a hand.

Majestic Oak's first system was the Bladelands Chronicles, an old-skool high-fantasy LRP with lots of linears and plenty of combat which is still running today. Since then Majestic Oak have also run a number of one-off games in a variety of other genres, and have more in the pipeline. For information on the games we are currenly running, check out the tabs at the top of the page.

Below is a little bit of information about the people who make Majestic Oak's games happen....

Refs:

Jonathan ElyJonathan

I'm the co-founder and main rules author for all of Majestic Oak's games. I have been working on this project with Emma (when real life allowed) for the past few years, although the main underlying ideas are much older, dating back to a project in 1994.
I have been playing live action games since 1990 and writing and refereeing for them since 1991. I have been playing and refereeing tabletop roleplaying games since 1977 when an American brought copies of a new game with him to our school in Oxford.
You should contact me regarding rules questions and particularly anything involving the magic system. I'm also the person to send your pre- and post- event turns and character information to.

Rob GhestRob G

Rob is an experienced LRPer who refuses to write anything for this sort of online bio!

Rob CorlettRob C

Rob is a little newer to LRP than most of the other refs, although has been hanging around LRPers for long enough to have absorbed a vast amount by osmosis, and, like the other Rob, refuses to write anything for this sort of online bio!

Paul CopePaul

Some people know me as Copey and I have been Live Role Playing for many years. I was born in London but live in Coventry because it is easy to escape to different parts of the country at the weekend. I like amateur trepanning, making models of my friends from ear wax and collecting pictures of Joanna Lumley. I dislike blue cheese and writing blurb about myself. People think I lie a lot but that's just not true.
There's very little point emailing me about anything.

FergieFergie

Known as Fergie by most I joined the Bladelands referee team after the first event. My main role is to plug gaps and generally support the Jon, Copey and the other refs.
I've been Larping for 18 years and have been involved as a Referee, Design Team, and Organiser of events for about 10 years, in various different systems and games.
I'm a believer in The 15 Rules of Better Living, Rule 1 ‘Do it if it’s funny’, and I constantly try to complete the shopping list.

Oli BeckOli

The latest addition to the ref team, Oli recently crossed the divide from the players, so knows how it feels on both sides of the fence.

Others:

Emma King ~m~

Before starting The Bladelands Chronicles with my partner, Jonathan, I'd never been involved in running an LRP event in my life, although I have played and crewed in a variety of systems enthusiastically since some time in the mid-90s.
Having never been terribly good at remembering complicated rules I leave most of that side of things to Jon - I did try the reffing thing for a while, but it really wasn't my cup of tea, so these days I stick to what I'm good at. This mostly involves being a rather frothy player, but I also make the odd prop and throw myself enthusiastically (and in some cases literally....) into combat as a random monster.
As well as being webmaster for this site I also deal with event bookings & various boring admin stuff, and am the person most likely to answer your emails when you first contact me. I field general enquiries about the system and events, so if you're new 'round here and not sure who to contact about what, feel free to drop me a line and I'll point you in the right direction. Please don't send me information about your character, though - in general I'm a player, not a ref!

Rob GhestWill

For reasons we are unlikely to ever understand, Will, a long-time player of the Bladelands Chronicles, has recently decided to lend a hand with event organisation and occasionally with NPCing / reffing one-off games. He also very kindly keeps the write-ups of previous games up to date on the forums.

Emma J KingAsh

A long-time player of the Bladelands Chronicles, Ash often helps out with cooking for the crew, making props and complicating computing bits and pieces for our more high-tech games.
